Musical Memories Choir

Musical Memories are a community choir made up of people who are living with a diagnosis of dementia and their family and friends. The choir is passionate about supporting those who have a diagnosis to thrive, and is therapeutically designed to create opportunities for social support, cognitive stimulation and musical expression. The choir began as part of a research project led by researchers from the University of Melbourne and Austin Health, andontinues to run with support from Rewire and Austin Health. Musical Memories is facilitated by registered music therapist (RMT) Zara Thompson, who is currently completing a PhD which is examining the lived experiences of people with dementia and their supporters who participate in therapeutic, community-based choirs.
